Be aware of solicitations

Shortly after getting your website up and running, you will likely see "notices" coming to you in the mail soliciting your business. These "notices" look like invoices or bills, even though they obscurely tell you otherwise.

The letters will inform the person that their domain is expiring and it needs to be renewed. Unsuspecting people will send them payment and a signed form to cover their domain's expiration without reading all the fine print.

When this happens, the company attempts to become the registrar of your domain and you end up jumping through hoops to get a refund.

Thankfully, our registrar (Melbourne/IT) has a domain "lock" feature so competing registrars won't take control over the domain without your consent. Before the lock feature was implemented, a few of our  customers were duped into this unethical practice.

The bottom line is always read the entire "notice" (top to bottom!) if you get one. If you are a customer of Kentucky Lake Productions and you have your domain with us, please call us to check if the "notice" is irrelevant. Chances are, it is.
